Newsy Becomes Broadcast Network with Affiliates Across Upper Midwest

Posted on October 1, 2021 by Jon Ellis

Scripps has relaunched the streaming news network Newsy as an over-the-air service with affiliates reaching much of the Upper Midwest.

The broadcast launch happened on Friday, Oct. 1, and coincided with a programming and logo change.

According to its website, regional affiliates include:

  • Bismarck: BEK’s KNDB/26.11 (Bismarck) and satellite KNDM/24.11 (Minot)
  • Duluth: Hubbard’s WDIO/10.6 and satellite WIRT/13.6 (Hibbing)
  • Fargo: Major Market Broadcasting’s KRDK/4.11 (Valley City)
  • Green Bay: Scripps’ WACY/32.6 (Appleton)
  • Madison: Morgan Murphy Media’s WISC/3.6
  • Milwaukee: Scripps’ WPXE/55.7 (Kenosha)
  • Minneapolis: Scripps’ KPXM/41.7 (St. Cloud)
  • Rochester, MN: Hubbard’s KAAL/6.5 (Austin)
  • Wausau: Scripps’ WTPX/46.7 (Antigo)

It also continues to stream freely through its website and numerous connected TV services.

Newsy is promising to stick to the news, avoiding the opinion and commentary that dominate domestic cable news channels. A news release states that it will be “rooted in fact-based, transparent reporting that focuses on the ‘why’ of every story.”

Newsy is the last announced channel for Scripps’ large portfolio of broadcast networks, which also includes ION, Bounce, Grit, Laff, Court TV, Court TV Mystery, Defy TV, and TrueReal. Scripps bought the ION network earlier this year to serve as the affiliate base in most major markets.
