Christian Broadcaster Buys Northern Minn. Radio Station

A company that runs two Christian radio formats in central Minnesota is buying a station in north-central Minnesota.

The deal filed with the FCC on Tuesday calls for St. Cloud-based Gabriel Media to purchase KSKK/1070 (Verndale) and the construction permit for K267CU/101.3 (Verndale) from the De La Hunt family’s Verndale Broadcasting for $200,000.

KSKK currently carries an Adult Contemporary format called “The Arrow” that is rebroadcast on K234CQ/94.7 (Staples); K234CQ is not included in the deal and could be switched to relay another station since its license is not linked to KSKK. The De La Hunt family’s Normin Broadcasting will retain K234CQ’s license and the right to use a six-bay FM antenna at the KSKK transmitter site.

The KSKK callsign and format had originally been used on KSKK/94.7 (Staples) and the format was moved to the AM station, formerly KVKK, when the original KSKK license moved to the Detroit Lakes market in 2015. K234CQ signed on later that year to revive the 94.7 spot on the dial.

KSKK transmits with 10kW non-directional daytime and 5kW directional nighttime, while the K267CU construction permit calls for a 250-Watt facility. K267CU faces a November construction deadline.

Gabriel Media operates Contemporary Christian outlet “Spirit 92.9” (KKJM St. Joseph-St. Cloud), Catholic Talk station KYES/1180 (Rockville-St. Cloud), and KYES translator K228FV/93.5 (St. Joseph).
