Q Media Properties Adds Third Station in East-Central Minn.

Posted on October 20, 2020 by Jon Ellis

The owner of the Pine City radio stations is adding a third station to its group with the purchase of KBEK/95.5 (Mora).

According to a news release, WCMP owner Q Media Properties is buying KBEK from Jay Mankie and Mary Lodin of Braham. The purchase price was not immediately disclosed.

The buyer will begin operating KBEK on Nov. 1 under a local sales and marketing agreement. Q Media says it will air local news, sports, and community programming on the station.

“We look forward to being involved in the Mora community and continuing the commitment to strong, local radio that KBEK has been proud of for many years,” Q Media owner Al Quarnstrom said in the news release.

KBEK currently carries a broad mix of Adult Contemporary, Alternative, and Classic Hits. It will join “Cool Country 100.9” (WCMP-FM) and “Classic Hits 106.5” (W293DA/106.5 and WCMP/1350). The stations operate under the umbrella of Twin Cities signals, with KBEK transmitting from within a mile of the official market boundary.

The current owners bought KBEK in 2014 and returned it to the air after a period of silence.

Q Media also owns four stations in communities along the Mississippi River in southeastern Minnesota.
