Eric Olson has resigned his position as co-anchor at KDLH/3 (CBS, Duluth) to become media director for Allete, the parent company of Minnesota Power. Olson left KARE 11 in 1997 to join KDLH. (11/27/2K)

Hubbard Broadcasting is purchasing KAAL/6 (Austin), the ABC affiliate in the Rochester-Austin-Mason City market, and will own every ABC affiliate in the state once the sale is complete. St. Paul-based Hubbard owns the ABC affiliates in the Minneapolis and Duluth markets, as well as independent station KSTC/45 (Minneapolis) and three satellite stations in Alexandria, Redwood Falls, and Hibbing. FOX29 (WFTC) has hired John Fischer to start the station's news department as news director. He has worked as a consultant for start-up news operations at six other Clear Channel stations over the past five years. FOX29 is expected to launch a newscast next spring. (11/7/2K)

MINNESOTA:
Americans for Radio Diversity has launched an 'MPR un-pledge drive.' The group is encouraging past and current donors to MPR to withhold their pledges in protest of MPR's stance against low-power FM stations. In a letter to MPR, ARD raises the issue of translator station K217AF/90.7, which transmits from the Wells Fargo building in downtown Minneapolis. The station is located nearer on the dial to MPR's KNOW/91.1 than any LPFM station would be allowed and broadcasts from an antenna higher than LPFM statiosn would use. However, MPR has not complained of any interference from K217AF to KNOW. There has also been no report of interference to a reading for the blind service on MPR's subcarrier, while MPR has been part of a campaign saying that LPFM stations could interfere with such services. ARD will hold a rally in front of MPR's St. Paul office on Friday, November 10, at 5 p.m. (11/7/2K)

KRKQ/98.3 (Boone-Des Moines) has transitioned from Classic Rock as "98 Rock" to Classic Hits as "Magic 98.3" following the transfer to Barnstable Broadcasting, which also owns longtime Rock station KGGO/94.9. Magic 98.3 can be heard online. (11/6/2K)

WNCB/89.3 (Duluth) is looking for a new PD following Dave St. John's planned move to the WAY-FM network based in West Palm Beach, Florida. There, he'll be PD and morning host.
