FCC Monitor: WPR Madison Upgrade Approved, New FM in NW Minn.

Posted on August 9, 2020 by Jon Ellis

The following are updates to stories previously reported here, and smaller recent FCC filings that do not merit a full story of their own at this time:

Iowa

KMGO/98.7 (Centerville) was granted an eighth extension of special temporary authority following a 2016 lightning strike. KMGO had transmitted from near Centerville with 100kW/138m but is using a temporary facility near Melrose with 19.5kW/124m. The station has a construction permit to operate from a different tower near Melrose with 100kW/321m but says the COVID-19 pandemic has further delayed the project.

Minnesota

Leighton Enterprises applied for a license to cover K245CU/96.9 (Detroit Lakes), which was granted during the AM revitalization filing window to relay KDLM/1340. KDLM is also relayed on K226CA/93.1, with 93.1 transmitting from Detroit Lakes and 96.9 just south of town. K245CU must relay KDLM as a condition of its license but K226CA could be switched to relay a different station in the future.

The FCC granted a change in frequency for Townsquare Media’s future 250-Watt FM translator for KDHL Faribault from 98.1 to 97.9, where it will have the callsign K25OCD.

Nebraska

NET’s Neligh translator has moved from RF channel 50 to 27 with the new callsign K27NI-D, using 350 Watts.

South Dakota

Radio By Grace, operator of the Freedom Radio FM network, closed on its purchase of K260BT/99.9 (Rapid City) from Edgewater Broadcasting. The application to transfer the license stated K260BT would relay Bott Radio Network’s KASD/90.3 (Rapid City), which transmits from the same tower.

Wisconsin

The FCC approved a construction permit for Wisconsin Public Radio’s W215AQ/90.9 (Madison) to move to 90.5 as W213CE, upgrading to 250W.
