Several FM Upgrades Coming to Scottsbluff

Posted on May 15, 2020 by Jon Ellis

Several FM upgrades and one frequency change are in the works in the Scottsbluff area following last year’s consolidation in the market.

The Nebraska Rural Radio Association plans to triplex three stations into the same ten-bay antenna on a tower west of Scottsbluff. KMOR/93.3 (Gering) and KOZY-FM/101.3 (Bridgeport) already transmit from the tower and will be joined by KHYY (Minatare), which will move from 106.9 to 107.3.

KMOR and KHYY will join KOZY-FM’s existing antenna at 339m above average terrain, with all three using 100kW (class C0). KMOR is already 100kW and will get a slight increase in antenna height from its present 311m.

The change will be much more noticeable for KHYY. Besides the frequency change, it will get a large boost from its present 25kW/28m (class C3) at a different site.

Meanwhile, VSS Communications’ KETT/99.3 (Mitchell) already transmits from the tower and will increase from its present 950W/249m (class A) to 2.65kW/258m (class C3). KETT began carrying VSS’ “Spirit Catholic Radio” in February, replacing KCTH-LP/95.1 (Scottsbluff).

100-Watt KCTH-LP is owned by Valley Catholic Radio, which told the FCC that the low-power station went off the air April 15. The filing did not indicate future plans for KCTH-LP.

The NRRA’s KNEB-FM/94.1 (Scottsbluff) will continue to transmit from a separate tower south of Scottsbluff with 100kW/207m (class C1).

KNEB-FM carries a Farm/Country format while KHYY is Classic Country, KMOR carries Rock, and KOZY-FM is Hot Adult Contemporary. The NRRA’s KOLT/690 (Terrytown) and KNEB/960 (Scottsbluff) both carry News/Talk formats that are relayed on FM translators.
