Northern Black Hills AM Station Sold

Posted on August 30, 2019 by Jon Ellis

The only radio station directly targeting the northern Black Hills is getting new owners.

Goldrush Broadcasting is selling KDSJ/980 (Deadwood) to 4 Paws Broadcasting, LLC, for $405,000. 4 Paws is owned by Loren and Pace Maier of Deadwood.

KDSJ carries a Full Service Oldies/Classic Hits format with news hours at 7 a.m., Noon, and 5 p.m. It competes with regional stations based in Rapid City and Sturgis. Here’s an audio sample from 2017:

KDSJ uses 5kW nondirectional daytime and 1kW directional at night. It did not apply for an FM translator during the FCC’s recent filing windows.
